There is a saying that the difference between theory and practice is that in theory, there is no difference between theory and practice but in practice, there inevitably is.

Depending on your training to date, chances are you’ve picked up a number of rules for “how to coach”. While some of these rules may make sense in theory, in practice they ultimately become a kind of behavioral straight-jacket, limiting our ability to respond in the moment and preventing us from seeing possibilities that can only come from thinking outside the box and drawing outside the lines.
